Emerging Solutions for Tough Economic Times
George O. Wood, chief executive officer of the Assemblies of God, a Pentecostal Christian denomination, talks often about the Feeding of the 5,000, a biblical story in which Jesus feeds 5,000 people with only five loaves of bread and two fish.
In that vein, Wood's denomination is putting faith in the idea that, even with limited resources, it can nourish the minds of its students. This month, the General Council of the Assemblies of God voted to consolidate three higher education institutions in Springfield, Mo.: Evangel University, Central Bible College, and the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.

Christian Colleges Hope House Bill Will Repeal New Rules
Christian colleges are hoping that a bill making its way through the U.S. House of Representatives may resolve their concerns over education regulations that go into effect July 1.
Under the new regulations, created by the Department of Education (DOE) in response to reports of financial-aid fraud at several for-profit institutions, states are required to have a "substantive" procedure to license private schools. For religious universities, this has raised concern that political agendas could be imposed on their missions. (See "New Rules Worry Christian Colleges," November 1, 2010.)

Christian University Rakes In Federal Student Aid of over $400 Million for 2011 and 2012
Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University is processing around $445 million in federal financial aid for its students for 2011-12, making it the top money-taker in Virginia, according to U.S. Department of Education data. The extraordinary figure was aided by Liberty’s on-line program which enrolled 52,000 students last year, compared to their 12,000 resident students. Liberty’s federal student aid jumped from $277 million in 2008-09 to $432 million in 2009-10, a 56% increase. President Obama’s boost to the Pell program, which the Ryan budget would take away, was responsible for much of the increase. Liberty expects to have 154 employees in its financial aid office by July. Liberty University was founded in 1971 by Southern Baptist pastor Jerry Falwell, who died in 2007. It is now run by his son, Jerry Falwell, Jr.
Robert Ritz, Liberty’s executive director of financial aid, said there was no conflict between the school’s very conservative positions and being one of the top schools in federal financial aid. He said that the school does not get the money, the students do. “These funds are authorized by Congress and Congress is elected by voters. I’ve always been in the position where I believe I’m a steward of those federal funds. I’m a steward of tax-payer money..” Ritz also said that some students refuse to take federal funds for their education, and Liberty honors that.

For private universities such as ACU, the strength of the endowment fund is synonymous with the financial health of the institution. Even in the recent troubled economy, ACU's endowment, under the leadership of chief investment officer Jack Rich, has grown, placing the university in the top quartile of its peer group.
Over the past 10 years, ACU's endowment has grown from $145 million to more than $290 million – doubling in a difficult investment environment. Among all university endowments with assets over $200 million, ACU had the highest return – tied only with Yale University, the longtime leader in endowment returns.

Learn to be a Christian Life Coach
Learn more about life coaching to improve your career or as a career in itself. This seems to be the next big trend and will take your career to a new level of success.
I had the opportunity, along with the Light University Online team, to spend some time this morning with Dwight Bain, who is recognized as one of the leaders in today’s growing Chrisitian life coaching movement. I learned a great deal. There’s a reason that the life coach is one of the country’s fastest-growing professions: it requires less formal education than most “helping professions,” yet is comparable—or better—paying. Forbes recently reported that 10% to 20% of all professional life coaches are now earning $100,000 or more annually. On average, fulltime life coaches earn approximately $85K per year, with part-time coaches earning $25K.
