Top Christian Universities Online are Remembering Ten Black Christian Leaders

Find out more on the black christian leaders of our time.

In a previous blog, "Reflections On the Revolution in Egypt", some readers were critical about my citing the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr. in connection with the successful non-violent protests and subsequent removal of Hosni Mubarak from power. These readers criticized me for associating, what they called "race", to the demonstrations in Cairo; when in their opinion, "race" was not an or the issue.

Such comments, presumably, were in response to several quotations cited by me from speeches of Dr. King, America's most prominent African-American, relevant to the success of non-violent disobedience in Tahrir Square.

Pirates kill 4 Americans passing out Bibles in the Gulf of Aden

Our prayers and condolences go to the families who lost loved ones today when pirates killed 4 American hostages sailing around the world passing out Bibles.

NAIROBI, Kenya – Four Americans taken hostage by Somali pirates off East Africa were shot and killed by their captors Monday, the U.S. military said, marking the first time U.S. citizens have been killed in a wave of pirate attacks plaguing the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean for years.

U.S. naval forces, who were trailing the Americans' captured yacht with four warships, quickly boarded the vessel after hearing the gunfire and tried to provide lifesaving care to the Americans, but they died of their wounds, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement.

Liberty University - Missions Emphasis Week kicks off at Liberty University

Liberty University is the largest and fastest growing Christian Evangelical university in the world. Fully accredited, Liberty University offers both campus-based degree programs and over 40 online degree programs in a wide-range of religious, theological, and secular fields ranging from business and education, to divinity and Christian counseling.

This week, Liberty University kicked off it's Missions emphasis week to give students a glimpse of mission's work and how missionaries live on the mission field.

Liberty holds Missions Emphasis Week each semester to give students an opportunity to hear the stories and testimonies of missionaries and to consider God’s will for their own lives as it applies to missions. This year’s theme is “Ethnos,” a Greek word meaning “nation, people group or tribe.”

“We hope to expose students to the needs that exist around the world and give them the opportunities to get involved, whether it be long-term or short-term missions,” said Lindsay Taylor, coordinator of Missions Emphasis Week. “We hope the students catch a global vision as a result of the week.”

Abilene Christian University is now giving an iPhone or iPod Touch to all incoming freshman

Finally, a university that understands its students...

Abilene Christian University is taking a bold move, offering incoming freshmen their choice of either an iPhone or an iPod.

To meet the students in their digital space, ACU gave faculty and every student on campus an iPhone or an iPod Touch last fall. Students can choose either one, but if they want the cell phone functionality of the former, they pay for that themselves.

Unlike other schools in the country that have handed out high tech devices, ACU has made a point of tracking usage and researching what, if any, benefits the devices have provided. One early lesson: Not all devices are created equal. When students are asked how often they use their device for academic purposes, there is a statistically significant higher level of satisfaction among iPhone users, which is about 68 percent of the campus. "Because it’s socially connected, students don’t go anywhere without it," says Saltsman, noting that a device without cell phone capability will be more likely to be left at home.
