Liberty University students received approximately $445 million in federal financial aid money last fiscal year, according to U.S. Department of Education data, making LU the top recipient in Virginia.
The rapid growth of Liberty’s online program has fueled the increased reliance on federal aid dollars, said Robert Ritz, LU’s executive director of financial aid.
Last year, Liberty enrolled about 52,000 online students, plus another 12,000 through its residential programs.

Learn to be a Christian Life Coach
Learn more about life coaching to improve your career or as a career in itself. This seems to be the next big trend and will take your career to a new level of success.
I had the opportunity, along with the Light University Online team, to spend some time this morning with Dwight Bain, who is recognized as one of the leaders in today’s growing Chrisitian life coaching movement. I learned a great deal. There’s a reason that the life coach is one of the country’s fastest-growing professions: it requires less formal education than most “helping professions,” yet is comparable—or better—paying. Forbes recently reported that 10% to 20% of all professional life coaches are now earning $100,000 or more annually. On average, fulltime life coaches earn approximately $85K per year, with part-time coaches earning $25K.

Inter-faith Discussion Aims to Build Bridges
In a world plagued by millennia of violence and warfare, what role—if any—can the world's religions play in resolving conflict and addressing other issues of global concern? That was the question considered by Regent University's Faith2Faith Dialogue on Saturday, Feb. 26, when six panelists representing six different faiths and worldviews came together to discuss Religion and Peace: Religious Answers to Global Crises.
Organized by Dr. Clifton Clarke, associate professor in Regent's School of Divinity and director of the Center for the Study of Global Missions, and Steve Carlin, a pastor at New Life Providence Church in Virginia Beach, Va., the discussion was part of the school's Modular Week offerings. Modular Week brings online students to campus for an intensive residency of classes and face-to-face interaction with faculty and fellow students.

At Texas' Abilene Christian, Digital Age Under Way
“The entering freshman class in 2011 will have several interesting traits," Abilene Christian University officials noted in a 2006 report, "not the least of which is that they were born the same year the Internet became mainstream."
Indeed, 2011 will be an interesting year for Texas higher education. At Texas' public institutions, it will assuredly be marked by budget cuts, even as they are asked to graduate more students. It is also the year of the $10,000 — books included — bachelor's degree, less than half the cost of the current statewide average.

College Parties, Minus the Beer Binges
Find alternatives to the beer parties of the college generation
Reports of binge drinking in college have long made headlines. As more schools offer increasingly creative alternatives to shots and beer pong, they say they see noticeable declines in drinking.
Surveys at Purdue University, for example, show a sharp drop in binge drinking among students, to 37.3% in 2009 from 48% in 2006, says Tamara Loew, health-advocacy coordinator. She attributes this in part to a boom in late-night, alcohol-free events on or around campus, from poetry slams and dances to carnivals and "cabin-fever" parties.
